I always suggest starting here because a name is one of the most important aspects of your business. It’s what all your branding will be centered around, how you will put your brand out there, and just the core of your business. This is the step many people get stuck on because they want the perfect name and find themselves overthinking their options. One of my favorite features about this tool is it quickly shows you if the domain name is available, allowing you to make a decision faster. Most businesses these days absolutely need a website to make their brand legitimate. I always suggest buying the domain that matches your brand name, even if you’re not quite ready to launch your website.

If you’re planning to have a website for your brand, then Google Analytics is probably the first thing you should install on it. This is absolutely essential if you’re looking to grow your business, which you should be. Knowing what’s working for you in terms of advertising and traffic allows you to focus your attention on those things that are giving you the best returns. I always suggest installing this as soon as your website is live so you can properly track your site’s progress.

While there are a number of great accounting software options out there, I personally love Xero because it’s very intuitive and simple to use. The more you use it, the more it learns about how to classify your income and expenses, so it gets easier to use as time goes on. Starting with a good accounting software from the get-go will also ensure when tax time rolls around, it’s a piece of cake for your accountant to figure out what you owe, ensuring you don’t have any nasty tax bill surprises.
