1. Water Down The Drain

That’s right. “Build-up”. Grease may go down the drain as smoothly as does water.

At least, initially. Only, grease is a thickened classification of oil. Its natural compounds will eventually coagulate and harden. When it does, it thickens and hardens within the piping system and will clog drainages. 

Moreover, grease, along with oil (although oil is not thickened, the way the first is), act as trappers. Debris and dirt that pass through pipes get stuck in these liquid lubricants. That’s more drainage-clogging, times-two.

What you can do is wait for grease to solidify and throw it separately into the trash bin. 

2. Grease Trappers And Strainers

3. Identify The Primary Water Valve

Why? Because then you will be able to adjust water flow and speed to decrease its pressure. Decreasing water pressure can lower the risk of further blockage.

5. No Other Objects Down The Drain 

Earlier, we mentioned how grease and oil are NOT to be poured into drains. The same rule applies with virtually any other item that isn’t H20. And yes, this list includes toilet paper, too. 

Many are inclined to think that because toilet paper is thin, it flushes easily and won’t be a source of drainage problems. The flushing mechanisms itself may let toilet paper through.

But if these sheets accumulate within the pipes, they become obstructions for proper water flow. 

A tip? Throw these toiletries in the trash bin instead.
