6 Tips for Staying Organized in College

There’ll be a lot to stay on top of when you’re at college. While you’ll find that there’ll be plenty of fun moments, it’s also true that things can become a little stressful if you’re disorganized. And nothing will have a more negative impact on your school work and enjoyment of college than a build-up of stress.

Thankfully, staying organized is one of those things that is under your control; all you need to do is know some useful tips for staying in control. We’re going to look at some of the most effective tips below. Build them into your lifestyle, and you’ll find that you can always stay on top of things.

As Bryan Wharton, owner of the popular housing rental company Wharton Rentals in Athens, Ohio, commented, “Staying organized in college is essential. Students who stay in Wharton Rentals’ Ohio University off-campus student housing usually have a lot going on. If you don’t find a way to keep track of everything it can feel very overwhelming.”

1. Make a Calendar

A calendar will be your best friend when you’re trying to stay organized. If you know when you need to be at class, when you’re tests are, when you should socialize and exercise, and so on, then you’ll always feel in control.

2. Keep a To-do/Task List

Having a to-do list will mean that you never overlook anything important. There’s nothing worse than knowing you’ve lost track of something important. You can update your to-do list each week.

3. Save Your Syllabi

The class syllabus will have all the key info you need, such as test dates, project due dates, how you can contact your professor, and so on.

4. Choose the Right Living Space

An organized home leads to an organized life. If you’re looking for off-campus housing near Ohio University, then be sure to choose a space that provides what you need, be it natural light, a working area, and so on, and be sure to keep it tidy, too. It’s much easier to work well when you’re in a tidy space.

5. Find Out When You Are Most Productive

Play to your strengths. If you know you work well in the morning, then schedule your day so that you’re working then. If you’re most productive in the afternoon or evening, then clear your schedule and work then. You have a lot of freedom when you’re at college, so it’s a good idea to set up your day so that you’re making the most of your energy.

6. Set Personal Deadlines For Your Papers

There’ll be deadlines for your papers, but you should also set your own deadlines. If you don’t, you might find that you’re leaving the work until the last minute — and you won’t feel very organized if you do that. Think three weeks in advance so you can get your first draft in, make revisions, things like that.

Take these tips, and you’ll always feel in control, even during the busy periods of college.
