Mint Mobile review: Getting started

Mint mobile is a new wireless service that connects to T-Mobile cell towers. What does this mean? It means you can get access to the same coverage that T-Mobile users for less money! Plans runs anywhere from $15 – $25 a month based on how many months of service you purchase at one time.

First: Do your research

When getting a new cell service, it’s important to research what you are getting for your price. With Mint mobile you get unlimited talk and text, 4G LTE high speed data, nationwide coverage (view the map here), ability to bring your own phone, keep your same number, and a free sim card.

Second: Keep your phone or get a new one

With Mint mobile you can keep the phone that you have or get a new one. Your current phone must be compatible with Mint in order to transfer your service over. Go to the dial pad on your phone and type *#06# to get your phones IMEI number.

Afterwards a list of barcodes will show on your screen. Enter the 15 – 17 digit code here to determine if it is compatible or not. Or you can buy a whole new phone (and yes, they have the new iPhone 11 Max).

Third: Get your starter kit

In order to get started with Mint mobile, buy mint mobile starter kit. The mint mobile $5 starter kit can be found at Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and Amazon. You get two sim cards in your kit. The first sim card includes 100MB of 4G LTE data, 100 text messages, and 100 talk minutes. This is a 7-day trial that you can use with your phone to determine if you are going to love this service.

The second sim card is for your full service after you’ve chosen a plan. You can keep your old number, and have it transferred to this SIM, or you can keep the new number you were given on your first SIM.
